Jessica Bayer - BGTC wellness champion for Spring 2012

Jessica BayerEach year Bowling Green Technical College selects a Spring and Fall semester "Wellness Champion" from among the faculty and staff of the College. This semesters recipient is BGTC Math Instructor Jessica Bayer.

A Wellness Champion is a faculty or staff member with a commitment to health that serves as an ambassador and motivator for Employee Wellness. They are active in wellness initiatives at their location. They share information, engage friends and collogues to participate in wellness programs and create excitement around leading a healthy lifestyle.

Jessica's motivation stems from her desire to stay healthy and active. "I am generally happier when I stay active," says Bayer. "I have days when I do not feel like exercising, but I always think about the feeling of accomplishment I will have afterward."

Jessica views wellness as a journey and has a philosophy about what it takes to achieve her wellness goals. "Take small steps that are manageable," Says Bayer. "If you want to eat healthier, try to eliminate one or two unhealthy items every month. If you want to be more physically active, add five minutes to your workout each week until you reach your goal."

It's difficult for anyone to find the time to implement and stick to a exercise regimen. When asked how she finds time to exercise on a regular basis Jessica says, "I try to exercise whenever I can. Sometimes I have to wake up early, or go to the gym on my lunch break. I keep a set of gym clothes in my car, just in case. Many evenings, I exercise while I am watching television."

Bowling Green Technical College congratulates Jessica Bayer as the Spring 2012 Wellness Champion.
